Awhile back there was a meme going around where you would type your name + the word needs into google & it would tell you all kinds of interesting stuff about yourself. I’m creating a new meme/way of life via Gilmore Girls.

I am in love with the random quote thing at gilmore-ism.com. It has become kind of like the magic 8 ball for me. For instance, should I wear shoes today? The random quote generator comes up with:

Man robs store with cheese grater

When I saw this headline for Man Robs Station with Cheese Grater, I immediately thought of the “Lorelai out of Water” episode. I think this is the episode where Rory & Lane are helping the Korean cousin get ready for the wedding & they talk about how some of the arrange marriages didn’t work out so well. In fact one overbearing husband was peeled with a carrot peeler. That’s a bad way to go.

It turns out that the people at the robbery just thought that the cheese grater was a gun. (Ummmm I’ve never stolen anything & I never will but the closet thing this guy could find to a gun shape is a cheese grater?) My imaginations for the cheese grater headline were much better. I thought maybe word of the Gilmore Girls peeling incident had spread and people were now afraid of cheese graters.

A bit of Garbo

I’ve wanted to say “There’s a bit of Garbo in her” since Kirk said it about Martha in the Always a Godmother Never a God episode. There was one problem, I have no idea what that means so I probably shouldn’t say it. I can only assume that they are referring to Greta Garbo. I can also infer from context clues (shout out to my fourth grade teacher for that phrase) that Greta Garbo was somewhat aloof. So I headed over to wikipedia to find out.

Here is a picture of Greta Garbo. I chose it because she looks aloof here.

In 1999 AFI rated her the 5th greatest female star of all time. That’s a mighty fine distinction for someone I’ve never seen in a movie. (They rated 1. Katharine Hepburn 2. Bette Davis 3. Audrey Hepburn 4. Ingrid Bergman if you were wondering)

She starred in silent movies early on which is why I have never seen her.

How caller ID ruined dating

I love the episode where Lane keeps calling Dave & then hanging up the phone when he answers. My love for this episode only stems in part from the fact that Adam Brody’s character is in it, even if it’s just his name. Yes, I have that much of a crush on Adam Brody.

Dating was so much easier before caller ID. You could just call to hear someone say hello & then hang up. You didn’t actually have to talk. I’m pretty sure every girl has done this. Stupid caller ID.

Was Christopher in Under the Tuscan Sun

If I was a good blogger I would just go look up this fact. Well first I would look up the name of the guy who plays Christopher so I didn’t keep calling him Christopher. I’m not that good of a blogger.

However, isn’t Christopher the guy in the end of Under the Tuscan Sun who is like Diane Lane’s dream boat? At least he is someone’s dream boat.

Gilmore Breakup Survival Guide

When I break up with someone my first thought is “How will I go on?” My second thought is “Whatever, he was a jerk & he kinda smelled bad too, I’m going to go watch Gilmore Girls. I have a little Gilmore survival guide. There is an episode for every kind of break up.

If I freak out & break up with someone I really like but the commitment was scary then I’ll watch the episode where Dean builds Rory a car & tells her he loves her.

If a boy randomly leaves, then I watch the episode where Jess goes away on the bus.

If a boy is just being too immature for me to be around I watch any episode with Christopher in it.

If the break up is with someone I thought was “the one” then I’ll watch the episode with “The Way We Were”. That episode is called Say Something. I know because I watch it way too often.

Notice that I didn’t mention Logan.

My first cooking injury

Grease just spattered all over my arm when I was ~~trying to cook~~ cooking. It’s sad that my first thought was “I’m like Sookie!” I totally have the accident prone/absentminded thing down.

However, I’m unlike Sookie in the fact that the food I cook does not taste good. Also I’ve never made risotto because you have to stir it for like 45 minutes straight or something like that. That just isn’t going to happen. I even checked the store for microwave risotto. Also, I didn’t like in the last seasons when Sookie wasn’t having silly cooking accidents. I could really relate to that.

Cereal combos

I’ve never tried the cereal combos that Paris invents when they are at college. I just can’t bear to put shredded wheat with anything. Here is my one & only recipe:

One bowl

One spoon

Three scoops vanilla ice cream. I normally don’t like vanilla ice cream, so I invented this one day when it was the only flavor in the freezer. Not eating ice cream just wasn’t an option. Yes, I realize that most recipe cards don’t have entire paragraphs. This isn’t a real recipe anyways.

A dash of captain crunch (ok so not a dash of captain crunch but a boat load)

Put the ice cream in the bowl. Then put the captain crunch on top of the ice cream & eat with a spoon.

How did Taylor come back into power?

I’ve always wondered about this weird plot line that just vanished. It’s not like the Gilmore Girls, they were pretty thorough in giving us closure at least until April entered the picture. I know that Jackson became town selectsman (Lets just call it mayor because that it what it is)

Then there was an episode where he was afraid of an assignation attempt. Then all of a sudden Taylor was mayor again. I wanted to see Taylor refuse to take the job, or Kirk go on a hunger strike until Taylor was the town selectsman again. I wanted subterfuge & a coupe. Where is my coupe?

The other one dyes

I’ve always loved the episode where Lane dyes her hair. I’ve never dyed my hair a crazy color, not even for Halloween. I decided it was about time to try this before I go gray & have to start dying my hair its natural color. So I watched the episode again & decided that I wouldn’t actually bleach my hair. I was terrified of the stinging that Lane was talking about. Also, I don’t have any kind of celery soda to take the pain away.

For the color, I was kind of iffy. Pink was obvious, because I’m a girl. However, the negative association with Pink & Kelly Osbourne ruled out that one. If I really wanted to be like Lane it should be purple, but I was afraid my hair wouldn’t take such a drastic color change without the bleach. Again, I don’t have any celery soda. So I put the color pomade in my hair & I looked so rock & roll. I took a picture. I then proceeded to wash my hair 10-12 times until all traces were gone. I think next time I’ll just photoshop a picture of myself so I have purple hair. I did get the obligatory picture though:
