Birthday Week

My birthday is in the beginning of July. Ever since I was little this has been problematic. People always seem to have summer vacations or family reunions on my actual birthday. Plus, sometimes it’s even an extended part of the 4th celebrations. So, my solution to this for the past few years has been birthday week, an idea I got from the Gilmore Girls, I think they did this for Lorelai’s birthday. This allows me to celebrate with several sets of friends and family. Plus, if one of my birthdays doesn’t turn out well then there’s always tomorrow to get it right. It’s something I highly recommend. Anyone else have a birthday week?

Updated Quiz

I had a lot more time in 2006. I finally got around to updating the Which Gilmore Girl Are You? Quiz. It should be up and running now. I still haven’t had time to get to the other quizzes and it may very well be 2020 when I do.

I rewrote the questions. On the original quiz I came out as Rory but in the new one I’m Lorelai. That could just be because I really have changed since 2006. What are your results with the new one?

I just looked up the plural of nemesis and I guess it’s nemeses or nemesi. I was just watching the episode “That’ll Do Pig” about Emily and her fight with Richard’s mom Lorelai. It hit me that everyone has a nemesis. Through much of the show, this was Emily’s role. Then comes along a woman who is basically Emily’s version of Emily. I guess everyone has someone who makes them feel small and belittled. I’ve always just thought of this episode as funny and a way to show Emily’s slightly hypocritical nature but it does say something about the human condition, I’m not exactly sure what, but it does say something.

Gray Gardens Review

This was a movie that I think the Gilmores watch in season three about Big Edie and Little Edie Bouvier. It’s from the 70’s. This movie is great and confusing, like watchign the most interesting home videos ever. Thank goodness for the internet and the ability to look up who are these people and what they are doing. Even then I can only take it in very small doses but when I can handle it, it’s fantastic. Anyone else watched this?

Gilmore Girls Sightings

It’s rare that I post like this because usually I’m not that smart. Well, I’m smart but I’m not good with names. So to say “That guy on that show is from Gilmore Girls”, really doesn’t have a big impact. However, in the last week I have seen:

The actor who plays Luke on Gilmore Girls on an old episode of Seinfeld.
Zach from Gilmore Girls on True Blood although it seems he has aged 4,000 years.
Jon Hamm from Mad Men was just on an episode of GG that I was watching (The auction one). I’m sure that the last time I watched it I didn’t know who he was.

Have you had any unexpected Gilmore sightings lately?

The Best Rory Outfits

It was a little more difficult for me to pick my favorite outfits that Rory ever wore. This had a lot to do with the fact that her style got progressively better as she went to college. However, the later seasons where she is fashionable are the ones that I don’t watch over and over because of the sucky story lines. So off of the top of my head my favorite outfits from Rory are:

Party dress in You Jump I Jump Jack
Red coat and white scarf
Red dress during dance marathon

The Best Lorelai Outfits

For some reason I started thinking about the best outfits Lorelai ever wore. This was a little bit difficult because I think that the girls looked the best during some of the photo shoots they did for the show, especially the one where they are in front of a brick wall or when they are all in black. However, they were selling the show instead of really playing the character. So from the show my favorite Lorelai outfits were:

Black Dress at Bracebridge Dinner
White Dress at Lorelai’s First Cotilion
Green dress with weird sweater thing I think the first episode at Friday night dinner.
One of the most “Lorelai” outfits to me is this velvet jacket with a long beaded necklace. The jacket was some shade of teal or green. I can’t remember the episode, it might even be in one of the opening montages during the song in later seasons.

Well That’s a Disappointment

When I was watching season 2 again, I noticed a conversation between Dean, Rory and Lorelai. They were asking questions about skeet shooting, like do the clay pigeons bleed, would you get a point if a clay pigeon flew in front of a real pigeon. This got me thinking, has this ever happened, I mean even once? My stupid question about skeet shooting was are the clay pigeons in the actual shape of pigeons? No, they are not, they seem to be in the shape of a disc.

So, I looked it up and was a little disappointed. People have injured themselves sure. There was even an article from 1988 about how when the clay falls after it’s been shot, it goes into rivers and is therefore bad for the environment. The plus side is that no real pigeons were harmed.

My Gilmore Bucket List

A bucket list is basically stuff that you have to do before you die. My bucket list is heavily influenced by the Gilmore Girls. A few weeks ago I got to cross off one of the top items: eat risotto. I don’t know whether or not it was actually magic risotto, but it was yummy. My brother made it for me.

It’s been a long road getting here people. First I had to learn what risotto actually was, then I had to look up the recipe and see that it had to be stirred for twenty minutes. Then I had to vow never to make risotto because it was too much work. Then I had to find someone who could and would make risotto. It was amazing. It’s not my favorite food in the world, like I wouldn’t order it at a restaurant. Once is probably enough, but Sookie would be proud.

If you have been in my house in the past well forever you are all suspect. You might have gotten away with it too if it wasn’t for that episode of Gilmore Girls where Logan takes something out of Emily’s house and replaces it with something else. So when I noticed that part of the doorstop was missing, I immediately knew what was going on. Especially since I couldn’t find the doorstop part anywhere and it’s too big to fit in the vacuum. I’m on to you, whoever you are.
